On the
ice: Hannah Cote, Kaylie DeCosmo
Congratulations to the MRYHA U12 Manchester Lady Hurricanes as they won the
U12 A2 MYCGL Championship Saturday beating Stoneham Ma. 3 to 2 in overtime.
The Lady 'Canes came out flying jumping out to a two goal lead in period
one. Kelley Guimont got things going scoring the first goal of the game with
Hannah Madden assisting on the play. As the period wound down, Hannah Cote
with a rush would put the 'Canes up by two as she scored picking up a
rebound off a Hannah Rogers deflection. Period two would see Stoneham score
two quick goals in a two minute span knotting the game at two. Period three
both teams played strong with the goaltenders coming up big at both ends.
Jen Bairam solid in net fory the 'Canes kept thing even through three
periods. Entering overtime, the 'Canes were determined not let this game
slip away. With just a minute gone in overtime, Guimont intercepted a break
out pass and with a rush blasted the winner by the Stoneham goalie. This put
an exclamation point on fine season winning both the NH and MA league
championships for the second season in a row.
On the road to the Finals, the Lady
Canes defeated all three teams they faced. In game one the 'Canes beat
Stoneham 3 to 2. Goals coming from Kaylie DeCosmo, Madden, and the game
winner by Kerry Chouinard with assist in the game from Skylar Pepin, DeCosmo,
and Madden. In game two the 'Canes beat Andover 2 to 1. Two goals scored by
DeCosmo with an assist from Madden. In game three the 'Canes defeated
Chelmsford 4 to 2. Goals coming form Cote, Madden, Guimont, and Sarah
Garrett with assist by DeCosmo (2), Jenna Mead, and Guimont.
U12 Lady Hurricanes are U12 Tier II State Champions
Congratulations
to the MRYHA U12 Manchester Lady
Hurricanes as they won the U12
Tier II State Championship
Sunday beating Seacoast with a
score of 1 to 0. The State
playoffs started on Friday where
the Lady 'Canes defeated Hanover
4 to 1. At the mid point of
period one, Hannah Madden got
things going for the 'Canes as
she gathered up a pass from
Sarah Garrett, broke in and
blasted a wrist shot into the
top corner of the net. Minutes
later Kelley Guimont would do
the same assist coming form
Emily Holtshouser. Now in period
two Kaylie DeCosmo lead
the charge on a three on one
where she fed the puck to Madden
who netted her second score of
the game. At the start of period
three, Madden and DeCosmo
connected again. This time
Madden broke into the
offensive zone wide passing
to DeCosmo who delivered the
goal. Hanover would score in the
final seconds on a 5 on 3 power
play. The defense of Garrett,
Holtshouser, Kerry Chouinard,
and Skylar Pepin was outstanding
keeping the oppositions shots to
one.
In Game Two
Saturday, the 'Canes faced of
against Seacoast where they
continued their winning
ways with a score of 4 to 2. The
line of Arianna Harris, Paige
St. George, and Emma Lynch
struck early when St. George
with on rush beat a Seacoast
defender and shot where a
crashing Emma Lynch deflected
the puck home giving the 'Canes
the early lead. Seacoast would
tie things up for a short time
before the trio of Madden,
DeCosmo, and Guimont connected
again with Guimont scoring the
goal and the other two the
assists. In period two Seacoast
tied the game, but this was
short lived as well. Holtshouser
at the point stepping up would
shoot and score, assist coming
from Madden and DeCosmo. In
period three, DeCosmo would net
an insurance goal as she broke
in and scored top corner. Skylar
Pepin with the assist had
stepped up to prevent a seacoast
breakout and found DeCosmo
streaking through the middle.
Jen Bairam came up big for the
'Canes net extending her win
streak in GSL play.
The Championship
game was a rematch with
Seacoast. This exciting game saw
Seacoast tighten up their rains
throwing everything they had at
the 'Canes. Period one went
scoreless seeing great up and
down action from both teams.
This was to be golden day as the
Gold Line, as they are called,
of Hannah Rogers, Hannah Cote,
and Jenna Mead broke through in
Period two. Rogers and Cote with
a rush passing back and
forth found Jenna Mead high slot
who broke in and netted what
would be the only goal and game
winner of this championship
match up. Call them Nostradamus,
as they predicted prior to the
game that they would lead the
way in scoring although they had
been snake bit the last few
games from scoring. In period
three, Cote would score only to
have it disallowed for being in
the crease. Seacoast would ring
the post but that is all they
would get. Jennifer Bairam would
preserve the shut out in net and
complete a sweep in Granite
State play. This was Bairam's
9th shutout of the season.
Congratulations Lady 'Canes repeating as State Champions. They will next take their title on to Rhode Island where they will represent NH as the #1 seed in Regional playoffs March 16, 17, & 18. Outstanding accomplishment:
