Tier II GSL State Champions
Regional Semi Finalist MYCGL Tier 1B Champions
The U12 Manchester Lady Hurricanes are MYCGL U12 Tier I B Champions
The U12 Manchester Lady Hurricanes sealed the deal Saturday capturing
the MYCGL Tier I B championship. Playing in the Massachusetts league in
their inaugural season, the Lady 'Canes proved Manchester belonged and
will be a power to be dealt with for the years to come in girls hockey.
Undefeated in playoff action, the 'Canes were up against top seed
Woburn. Woburn had handed the 'Canes one of only 5 defeats in league
play this season.
The 'Canes were fired upped and appeared ready to roll until the puck dropped. Tired legs crept in and Woburn controlled the action early. Woburn would score halfway through the first period on a nice pass and shot. As the buzzer sounded, period one ended with the 'Canes down by a goal. If not for the strong play and effort of Jenna Mead, Kaylie DeCosmo, Crystalle Parent, Hannah Cote, and Sarah Garret on offense and Kerry Chouinard, Hannah Curley, Kailah Donavan, and Madison Earl on Defense the score would have been much worse. Period two saw back and forth action as the 'Canes picked up the pace. The momentum start to swing as the line of Erin Joyce, Parent, and Cote applied a swarming of pressure just coming up short of breaking the ice for the 'Canes ringing the post twice. Again the buzzer sounded, the second period had ended with the 'Canes down by one. With one period to go in the season, it was now or never. The hot line of DeCosmo, Mead, and Parent got the starting nod in the period. The shots were flying but the Woburn goalie denied the 'Canes again and again as the whistle blew. As play began, Woburn worked the puck out of their zone where Madison Earle intercepted a neutral zone pass and raced the puck back at Woburn blowing by the defense. She found herself one on one with the goalie and this time put the head fake and deaked the Woburn goalie as she found the back of the net. The stands erupted as the 'Canes tied it up 2 minutes into the final period. The next line out picked it up even more, Emma Tufts beating a defender blasted one at the Woburn goalie who made an impressive kick save, Hannah Madden collected the rebound blasted another one back being denied again. This time Marissa Fifield would not be so kind scoring the go ahead goal with 8 minutes left in the game. Just as quick as the lead came Woburn was on a break away. It was Number 8, Woburn's Captain and leading goal scorer. Jennifer Bairam in came out to cut down the angle. The Woburn player reached back and let one rip, Bairam as she has done all season long stood confident and snared the puck out of the air. Minutes later the 'Canes Captain Fifield took things into her own hands as she received a pass from Parent and rushed in scoring on a wrist shot giving the 'Canes an insurance goal. The time was now under a minute and Woburn pulled their goalie. This was a no prevail as Fifield intercepted the outlet pass and sealed the win for the Lady 'Canes notching a hattrick and neding the scoring at 4 to 1 'Canes. The U12 Manchester Lady Hurricanes ended their inaugural MYCGL season with a 19-5- 2 record and as Tier 1 B Champions.

The U12 Manchester Lady Hurricanes won the GSL II Championship game against the Lady Monarchs 3 to 2 in double overtime Sunday. The Lady 'Canes came out flying in front of a crowd of loyal MRYHA fans. For the first time in 3 meetings this season, the 'Canes struck first. Marissa Fifield flew down the right wing at the 7:43 mark of the first period beating the Monarch goalie with a wrist shot to the top corner. The lead was short lived as the Monarchs marched back and scored 5 seconds later. Determined, the Lady 'Canes held their composer and played the first period to a 1 to 1 tie. Fifield again found her stride beating two Monarch defenders before netting her second goal of the game. This time the 'Canes kept up the pressure with a solid fore check led by Hannah Cote. Erin Joyce collected a rebound off of a shot from Hannah Madden and rang the post denying the 'Canes of an insurance goal. The Monarchs then struck back halfway through the second period knotting the game at two. The second period again would end in a tie. Kelcey Crawford in net for the 'Canes stood strong in period three turning back shots from all angles. Emma Tufts on a pass from Kaylie DeCosmo came up short on a nice Monarchs save. With standout defensive play from Kerry Chouinard, Madison Earle, Kailah Donovan, and Hannah Curley the game remained tied after the end of the 3rd period. The game was sent to overtime where both teams had their opportunities. Not being able to capitalize, the teams ended the first overtime tied and headed to their respective locker rooms for a fresh sheet of ice. The 'Canes went with the hot hand coming out with the line of Fifield, Sarah Garret, and Jenna Mead. Winning small battles at center ice, the 'Canes gained possession of the puck. Fifield again found herself one on one against a Monarch defender. Cutting to the slot the defender was beat and Fifield blasted the game winner by the goalie and into the net. Fifield's hatrick capped off her MVP performance in leadership. The game winner came on the heels of a huge team effort. Participating in the excitement were Crystalle Parent and Jennifer Bairum both sidelined with injuries. The State Champion U12 Manchester Lady Hurricanes will next take on Vermont in round one of the Regional playoffs March 17 at 7:00 PM at Tri Town Arena.
Congratulations U12 Manchester Lady Hurricanes Teir II State Champions
