The MRYHA Skaters Edge U14 Manchester Lady Hurricanes won the girls U14 Tier II State Championships this past weekend as they skated past the competition from around the State.  In the Championship game, the Lady 'Canes faced off against Hanover.  More than halfway through period one, Ashley Zannini would get the 'Canes on the board first with shot from the slot.  Assists on the play going to Taylor Merrill and Emily Holtshouser.  Midway into period two, the 'Canes would strike again as Hannah Cote passed off to Angela Augusta who broke in on a breakaway deaking the Hanover Goaltender and netting the score.  Strong fore checking, defense, and standout goaltending took control of the game from there.  Lexi Tilton in net in the final game stood strong turning away all shots to post the shutout. Solid defense throughout the playoffs came from Skylar Pepin, Ami Thompson, Morgan Fifield, Taylor Merrill, Jenn Bairam and Hannah Kearney providing the protection to solidify the championship.  In the preliminary games, the Lady 'Canes beat Nashua in game 1 with a score of 3 to 1.  Kaylie DeCosmo would score a 3 goal hat trick in the game with assists going to Zannini, Holtshouser, and Bairam.  In game two the 'Canes fell to Hanover 4 to 0 but would bounce back in game three against Dover Dover stormed out to a 2 goal lead after period 1.  Goaltender Alanah Burns entered the game in period two to shut down the Dover attack.  The 'Canes picked it up from there as Holtshouser blasted a wrist shot top corner for the 'Canes first score of the game.  A few minutes later Cote found a way to slip by the defense and notch the tying goal.  Holtshouser would score a final time giving the ‘Canes the lead with the assist going to DeCosmo.  With just over three minutes left in the game, the line of Kelley Guimont, Jackie Kinch, and Emma Lynch controlled the play burning up over a minute and half of time.  Burns would shut down a final desperate attempt from Dover to notch win and move the 'Canes into the Semi Finals.  Facing off against Seacoast, the momentum surely had changed back to the number 1 seeded Lady Hurricanes. This was a fast passed game and one of the best of the tournament.  The 'Canes would score first midway through period two when DeCosmo wristed a board pass to Zannini who streaked in from the red line all alone shooting a wrist shot and finding the back of the net with the puck.  In all the excitement, Seacoast took the drop of the puck at the face off, rushed down the ice, and notched a score just seven seconds later.  Now in period three, Alex Breen deep in the Seacoast end skated around a defender, passed off to Cote who skated in and beat the goaltender low and into the net.  Strong pressure from the entire team enabled the Seacoast team from posting any further attacks and the Manchester Lady Hurricanes would advance to the finals and become the State Champions.

U10, U12, and U14 Teams for the 2009-10 Season
and Now Middle School through High School teams.

Girls hockey is one of the fastest growing girls sports in the USA and the future is bright for NH girls hockey. New Hampshire high school hockey for girls is in season and if it is not in your school yet, it will be soon.  The Manchester Lady Hurricanes have been the only organization in New Hampshire to successfully have a development, U10, and U12 teams for the past 4 seasons and have added a U14 team for the 2009-10 season. The Lady Hurricanes have been successful since their inaugural season in 2004. The U12 teams have won State Championships the past four seasons and won the Regional Championship this year.  Both the U10 and U12 teams have made names for themselves in Massachusetts as well were they have won 3 championships in the top tiers in the MYCGL. The Lady Hurricanes have become regionally known advancing to Regional playoffs in all their years of existence.  Teams from Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine and Connecticut look forward to games against our teams. Over the past few season we have competed against some of the best teams from around the region. Teams like Troy NY, Burlington VT, ST Albans VT, Casco Bay Maine, Springfield Falcons MA, Marlboro Lady Flames MA, Assebet Valley MA,  Mid-Fairfield CT Stars, Darien CT,  CT Northern Lights , Hartford VT, Bare VT, Arlington MA, Providence RI, and the Rhode Island Rams to name a few.
Our teams are built on skating and get it done by skill skating, team building, passion, and hard work. The past two seasons the Lady Hurricanes have begun to work closely with the varsity women's team at Saint Anselm College were coaches and players have helped to evaluate and participate in our practices.  This has been a great way to reinforce our skills as well as show our players where hard work can get them in the future.  Saint Anselm has also been our home rink for our All Girls Columbus Day Classic Tournament where teams from all over come to play to kick off their season.  As a new season will soon be here, new teams are being formed. This could be your year to become a Lady Hurricane.  Our teams for the 2009-10 season will again play on average 2 practices per week starting after Labor Day with games played on the weekends. Players and parents a like have fun on our teams. Come on down to the rinks and be a part of the team.
